Changu Ni Chema closed its 2026 Tuberculosis awareness drive having reached more than 400 community members across three villages in Homa Bay Town and the surrounding wards. Over two weeks, trained community health volunteers held door-to-door sensitisation sessions, screened for symptoms, and walked suspected cases through the referral pathway to the nearest health facility.
“TB is still surrounded by silence and fear in many homes,” said one of our peer educators. “When a neighbour you trust explains that it is treatable and the medicine is free, people listen.” The campaign linked 38 presumptive cases to sputum testing and accompanied newly diagnosed members through the first weeks of treatment.
The initiative was delivered in partnership with the County Health team and builds on more than fifteen years of community health work since the group was founded in 2007.
